The Dear Hank story played out wonderfully, with a great climax and a couple of terrific twists at the end. If you didn’t follow the season throughout, it’s worth your while to go back and read the story of Hank Greenberg and his desperate attempts to help 10-year-old Markie Edelstein escape Nazi persecution and make it to America in the looming shadow of the upcoming World War.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of the project.
Even if you haven’t followed along, you’re in for a treat if you have any interest in that period of baseball history at all. Since the regular season of this 1938 replay is over, Jeff will be reporting on the World Series this week. Though I rolled all the regular season games, Jeff will be rolling the series between the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox.
Game 1 will feature Lefty Grove and Carl Hubbell facing off on the mound. Big stars in each league will be on center stage, as Jimmie Foxx (.342-53-147) mans first base for the Sox, and Mel Ott (.319-30-108) will be on third for the Giants.
I’m looking forward to how this plays out! Roll on, Jeff!
