2010 MLS – Game 8: San Jose vs. LA Galaxy

I really want to catch up on posting results here for this project, so I’m going to start posting one scorecard a day. Some games will get full writeups, some will have just brief synopses and the stats.  As always, click on the scoresheet below to blow it up to a readable size.

Without further adieu:

LA pulls out the road win in a surprisingly evenly matched contest.

Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy earns the Man of the Match with a goal and a strong showing against his former team, the San Jose Earthquakes.

The Earthquakes took an early lead in the 25th minute on a Brandon McDonald score from Area D after a Sam Cronin pass finds him open.

The game gets wild in the 32nd – 38th minutes, as great chances are found on both ends of the pitch.  Six shots are taken altogether, but it’s LA’s Landon Donovan who is able to capitalize when he finds the back of the net with a header on goal as a result of a nicely placed corner by teammate Sean Franklin.  Donovan has another header from the box as the first half expires, but this one goes over the crossbar.   At the half, the score is 1-1.

The second half starts off quickly for the Earthquakes and it looks like they are going to take control of this game when Bobby Convey makes a rare passing mistake and Edson Buddle is there to steal the ball.  He takes the interception and finds himself in a one-on-two breakaway, but he proves why he’s LA’s number one man when he fires home an Area D killer that puts the Galaxy ahead for good.

San Jose is unable to come back and equalize after LA’s 4-5-1 formation shuts them down for the rest of the match.
