2010 MLS GAME 15: SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES v. COLUMBUS CREW

Outstanding Goalkeeping highlights a Nil-Nil draw in Columbus

ANALYSIS:

The very first APBA Soccer game I played, before I decided to jump into this replay, was a nil-nil draw between Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy.  I was not pleased with the result, and I thought that either I was doing something wrong, the game was a bummer, or it was just an aberrant result.

It turns out the answer was C (isn’t it always?).  This San Jose v. Columbus game was game 15 of the season, but since I have actually completed the entire season now, I can tell you that this 0-0 draw in Columbus was the only 0-0 draw of my MLS mini-season replay.

This game fell right into the average statistical zone with 26 shots and 9 shots-on-goal, and an above-average 13 corner kicks, but the keepers were strong and steadfast and stopped every rally.

Will Hesmer received Man of the Match honors though Jon Busch was equally deserving.  Hesmer stopped an offensive barrage from the Earthquakes in the final 10 minutes that saved the point for the Crew.
