Round of 16 Results

Eight matches with 16 clubs. Going into this I expected an upset or two, but it was the biggest upset in this round that produced a match for the ages. And another match with a #12 going up against a #5 won’t be forgotten in rainy Newcastle anytime soon.

TOTTENHAM 1 – 1 SUNDERLAND
(Sunderland advances after winning penalty kick shootout 3-0)

MANCHESTER CITY 2 – 1 ASTON VILLA
Man City outshoots Villa 15(9) to 7(3), but Dzeko’s header off a CK in the 61st minute is the difference in the match.

LIVERPOOL 2 – 1 FULHAM
Liverpool dominates possession, but can’t score until Dembele is sent off in the second-half. Two goals (Downing and Bellamy) in the next 9 minutes send Fulham packing.

MANCHESTER UNITED 2 – 0 BOLTON WANDERERS
Wayne Rooney is the Man of the Match, as this one goes pretty much as expected. Bolton did well to beat Wigan in the play-in, but Man U was too much for this #18 seed.

EVERTON 1 – 4 WEST BROMWICH ALBION
Shane Long had a brace, Youssef Mulumbo and James Morrison added another goal each and West Brom thoroughly dominated every aspect of this matchup.

ARSENAL 2 – 1 STOKE CITY
Stoke held their own, but two Robbie Van Persie goals proved to be too much to overcome.

CHELSEA 0 – 1 SWANSEA CITY
In another huge upset, #11 Swansea City takes a page out of Mourinho’s book and plays 90 minutes of unattractive football, but is able to procure the win against the heavily favored Chelsea side. Nathan Dyer finds the back of the net on a corner by Daniel Routledge in the 51st minute, and that’s all it takes for Swansea to advance to the Quarterfinals.

  1. Have you heard anything about a projected release date for the new version of APBA soccer?

    • I haven’t heard anything official, but I did hear a rumor that the proofs for the new boards were going to the printer a couple weeks ago. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I get any official word.
