Three of the first four matches went to extra-time, but it was the first match of the tournament that was the cracker.


Sunderland-v-Wolves back

Sunderland advances to face the #4 seed, Tottenham Hotspur. Also advancing from the play-in round:

  • ASTON VILLA 3, QUEEN’S PARK RANGERS 2: A -4 point Clutch Pass from James Collins to Robbie Keane in stoppage time leads to a foul in the box. Gabriel Abonglahor slams home the PK and Villa will advance to face Man City in the Round of 16.

  • BOLTON WANDERERS 1, WIGAN ATHLETIC 0 (e.t.): The game was scoreless after 90 minutes, but in the 26th minute of extra time, Mark Davies headed a corner kick into goal to provide all the scoring the 18th seed Bolton needed to advance. The Wanderers will face Manchester United in the next round.
  • STOKE CITY 2 (3), BLACKBURN 2 (0): After 120 minutes of play the score was knotted 2-2. Blackburn was shutout in the Penalty Kick Shootout, though, and Stoke will face Arsenal next.
