1985 Pat Clements Basic

This is the infamous and obscure 1985 Pat Clements card. I only have a pic of the basic side, unfortunately. I yoinked this pic from an eBay auction that’s up currently (link here) with the 1985 Strat-O-Matic extra players set for sale. This card was mistakenly not included in the set that was released in 86, but Strat-O-Matic Games provided it to anyone who wrote a letter to the company and asked for it. Because of the circumstances, very few of these cards ever went into circulation. Anybody have a picture of the advanced side that they’d like to share? Email … Continue reading

Oscar Charleston and Outsider Baseball

Oscar Charleston was born on this date in 1896 and died 9 days short of his 58th birthday. By some accounts Charleston was the greatest player of his era, and possibly of all time. In The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract [c. 2001, Free Press] ranked Charleston the 4th greatest player of all time, behind only Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Willie Mays. It was about a year ago that oneforfive profiled the Seamheads’ Outsider Baseball Bulletin and … Continue reading

Strat-O-Matic Custom Ballparks Resource

With the release of Strat-O-Matic 2012 in January of 2012 (Strat-O-Matic’s 17th version release), the company gave gamers the ability to import custom ballpark photos for use in the computer game. This feature had long been on the wishlist of Strat-o-Matic fanatics and, though the interface remains clunky, the custom ballpark feature has been one of the most significant updates to the game in recent years. Here are a few sites that have collected and are hosting a large number of user-created ballpark files: Dave’s Strat-O-Matic Ballpark Page (defunct) StratFanForum’s 2011 Modern Ballpark Pack (link goes directly to file download) … Continue reading

Official OneForFive Baseball Scorecard

Here it is, by popular demand, a free download of the one page baseball scoresheet that I created all by myself and that I use for all baseball games nowadays. My favorite thing about it, besides that it’s only one page and doesn’t require any flipping, I also like the little fielding chart where I enter the fielders’ ratings. It’s so much easier for me to visualize my fielders this way. Here is a link to the excel file for download in case you’d like to edit it in any way you need. Here is a link to a pdf … Continue reading

Exclusive: 1933-34 Pittsburgh Crawfords Negro League Strat-O-Matic Cards by Scott Simkus

In the tabletop-sports hobby, Scott Simkus is known as the genius researcher behind the critically acclaimed 2010 release of Strat-O-Matic’s Negro League 108 card set.  Simkus compiled an unprecedented collection of Negro Leagues boxscores, game accounts, and period literature on the leagues and its stars, and used that information to help create the Strat-O-Matic Negro League set, as well as write the guidebook that came along with the set (the guidebook is available for download from Strat-O-Matic here). Though the guidebook is tremendously useful for anyone getting to know the old Negro League and its stars, Scott’s prose and ability … Continue reading
