Some Sunday Night Items of Note

APBA Baseball for Windows v5.75 is now available for Pre-Order at the you-can’t-go-wrong purchase price of $20.00 for the complete game including season rosters for 2011, 1961, and 1921.  The price point is perfect, the inclusion of the season rosters is a terrific move.  I’m a fan of everything APBA is doing these days. Speaking of everything APBA is doing, in the July 20th newsletter it was announced that the game co. will sponsor next year’s APBA convention, to be held June 21-22, 2013 in Alpharetta, Georgia.  While certainly a practical decision, moving the convention to Alpharetta is also a … Continue reading

Win a Strat-O-Matic College Football Game!

In a bid to promote Strat-O-Matic College Football and his new Strat-O-Matic Podcast, Steve Reiter (aka @coolbeans59) has announced a contest in which the winner will receive the new 2012 edition of Strat-O-Matic College Football. Here are the contest rules: Name the Top 5 QB cards in the 2004-2010 Strat-o-matic College Football sets (not necessarily in order of 1 thru 5) – Player & Year. The formula I’m using is the Football Ratings Guide formula with … Continue reading

Strat-O-Matic Football Scoresheet

I’m really starting to enjoy the elementary version of Strat-O-Matic Pro Football. So much so that I just ordered the 1983 six-team set from the game company and hope to start a new project with it soon. (Just what I need, another project!) I have found that although I do like the concept of the scoresheet that was included with the game, I don’t like that to keep track of both teams you have to use the front and back of two separate pages and I realized that I don’t need to track some of the info it tracks (Punt … Continue reading

Strat-O-Matic Podcast

This first episode of the new Strat-O-Matic podcast hosted by Steve Reiter of the Herculean Football Association and featuring Glenn Guzzo (of Strat-O-Matic Fanatics fame) is, predictably, all about Strat Pro Football – specifically, announcing and discussing some ratings for certain players in the soon-to-be-released 2011 card set. I am brand new to Strat Pro Football and have not attempted a game with Advanced Rules yet, so the ratings they’re discussing in the podcast are pretty much Greek to me. However, I listened to the whole podcast and I have to say that I am very excited about the possibility … Continue reading

Strat-O-Matic Pro Football LiveTweet!

Opening up @StratOMatic Pro Football for the first time, looking forward to learning a new game! — Paul Dylan (@heyblue) June 4, 2012 2008 Minnesota Vikings vs. 2008 Indianapolis Colts Strat-O-Matic Pro Football (Elementary Version) This is the absolute first time I’ve ever played the game. I’ll give a full review later, but suffice to say, this “Elementary Version” was very easy to learn and it was an enjoyable simulation of a football game. With just the one game under my belt, it’s impossible to say how accurate the game is statistically, but I followed the Elementary solitaire chart in … Continue reading
