FREE Strat-o-Matic Japanese Hall of Famers/Heroes Set

Over the years, Len Durrant has become something of a legend in the Strat-o-Matic gaming community.  His contributions, particularly to the computer version of the game have been expansive in scope and meticulous in detail and he’s generously shared with the community some of his greatest work.

The Formidable Buffalo

Len Durrant's Downloadable Japanese Heroes set features Yakyuu greats like Shigero Chiba

He’s doing it again over at the Strat-o-Shack, as he has released a Japanese Hall of Famers/Heroes set (link is broken, send me an email for working link) for the computer version AND, more importantly to me, as a carded version available to download and print yourself.  This is manna from heaven for me, I can’t wait to add some of these greats to my PUB League, where Sadaharu Oh already mans first base for the Yomiuri Giants.

The Messiah

...and the set also features great foreign-born players like Warren Cromartie

In the past, Len has opened the Strat-o-Shack for short periods as he’s offered other bits of his work, but closed down the download opportunity soon thereafter.  If anyone is reading this post and finds the link broken or the download unavailable, contact me here through the comments of this post, or through twitter at:  http://twitter.com/#!/heyblue and I’ll be glad to email you a copy of the files.

  1. Could you please send me the files, I can’t seem to get them from the Shack. I’ve been meaning to comment to you on the fact that I enjoy following your blog even though I have about zip interest in soccer. Don’t dislike it, just have never followed it. Might be an age thing, not exactly sure. But your scorecards and write-ups are very well done. I can see where perhaps the APBA soccer game is going to be around for a while if they can find some more enthusiastic players like you. I’m basically just into baseball sims at this point and any time I would put into a different sport would detract from that. And I assume you’ll get my e-mail address from what I was required to fill out under Leave a Reply. Thanks!

  2. Hi Mike – I just sent you an email. Thank you for following the blog and thank you for leaving a comment and kind words here. It means a lot just to know that people are stopping by – and to hear that you’re actually reading the blog is icing on the cake!

    Thank you,

    Paul

  3. Just started reading blog this week. Some interesting stuff. Monte Irvin card looks real nice. Keep up the info. Had downloaded the Japanese cards earlier but was wondering if you had a file of any other past cards by strat-o-shack. I seem to remember some Cuban League cards but they may have been only for computer. I am still a card player myself.

  4. Hi Elmer – thanks for reading and for the nice comment. I don’t have any Cuban League cards and haven’t seen any, but I have heard people reference a Cuban roster for the computer game before. If I see any mention of Cuban League cards anywhere, I’ll be sure to let you know here on the website. I would love to see those myself!

  5. I was wondering if you had a file with the Japanese League teams that were on the Strat-o-shack site a while back. They were great teams from the past like the 1955 Giants and some others. Still enjoying the blog. I have been reading back thru some of the previous stuff.

    Thanks

  6. Hi Elmer,

I don’t think I have the great teams of the past Japanese teams, but I’ll go through my files and see if I do. Not sure.

  7. Hi,
I was trying to download the Japanese Hero set, and having zero luck.
Can you give me some guidance on how to do it?
I’d really like to see how these players would perform against other strat teams in my replay leagues. I think the work you’ve done to create this set is fantastic.
    Thanks.

  22. Could you please email me a copy of this. I’m doing a Strat greatest players project and I just realized I need more pitchers for my replay and this set would be just what I need. I could also add Oh! any help is appreciated.

  23. Could you please email me a copy of this.

  24. This is a general comment for anyone designing games or their own Strat player cards, and not a criticism of Len. When it comes to designing cards, especially ones with a lot of information on them like the advanced side of a Strat card, SANS SERIF fonts always trump serif/Roman fonts for readability.
Just a personal bugaboo of mine…

  25. I would like the comp version of the Japanese Heroes if still available. 🙂

  26. I’d love a copy of the Japanese cards if you still have them available. Thanks!

  27. I could use the Japanese cards too if you still have them. Thank you.

  28. I would love the copies too if you still have them. New to the blog….bookmarked

  29. Hello Paul,

I seem to remember downloading these Japanese cards from this site a while ago. Somehow I’ve deleted or lost them.

If you still have them, I would like to have a copy.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

  30. Paul, Can you please send me the Japanese player cards. I only have an android system. Is it still possible to send them to me. I’ll hand copy them.Basic game only please. I have played 2 seasons (81 games each) with 40 teams of the greatest players ever. The Negro Leaguers played in the last season. The only Asian players that I’ve been able to use are those who played in America except that I used a Mel Ott card for Oh and made him a 1b-2. Appreciate your help with season 3.Thanks.

    • Hi there – the cards in this PDF file are advanced only, there are no Japanese cards in Strat Basic. They come in a PDF file, so you should be able to read them in any system that has a PDF reader like Adobe Reader. Check your email!

      Paul

      • Thanks for sending the Japanese players. I don’t have a printer and I play basic game only because the league that I play has Forty teams (1000 players) of the best players of all time. I use a lot of players from the early year old timers teams that are basic game only. Since I wanted about 50 of the best players of Japan and I was copying them anyway. I altered them into basic. It wasn’t hard since the lefty righty splits made both sides of the cards somewhat transferable. You were a great help. Thanks again. My third season will start in the spring with about 50 players. I didn’t use any American Players ( if they couldn’t do it here they were not that great) and if they have played in the majorsI’m going with what they did here( sorry Kaz Matsui)

  32. I’ve been a Strathead for fifty years and enjoy the baseball board game. I played soccer in high school and am a fan of the EPL.Can you recommend a soccer table game? If it’s similar to Strat’s hockey game in realism that would be fine. Thanks.

    • Hi there,

There are a ton of great soccer games. I wrote about many of them extensively in the Summer 2014 issue of OneForFive.com Print Edition. Unfortunately, the printed version of that issue is sold out but the PDF will always be available. Click here to order the Summer 2014 issue in PDF format.

For a quick recommendation, if Strat-O-Matic is your baseline, I’d say try APBA Soccer first. If that’s not your style, try Soccer Blast and/or Classic Soccer. A free soccer game that has a similar feeling as the Strat-O-Matic brand-games is “Mean Mark’s EPL Challenge.” Unfortunately, as far as I know, that game only has the 2012 season available.

  33. Could I get a copy of the Japanese Baseball Heroes set, too?

And by the way, the second issues of One For Five was absolutely great, from the magazine layout itself, the cover (which was wonderful, beautifully done), to the football and basketball articles as well. Just great, great stuff. A real pleasure to read and a great contribution to the hobby.

  34. I would like this file too.

  35. I WOULD LIKE THE JAPANESE HALL OF FAME SENT TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS PLEASE.

    THANKS,
    TIMMY

  36. Can I get a copy of this set, or a new link to it. The opera link isn’t working any more. And since I have a new PC, I need the link again.
