STAR WARS – The Hockey Game

by Larry Granillo

Welcome to the Hoth Arena, where tonight we will witness what promises to be the most exciting game of hockey ever played, between the Rebels and the Galactic Empire. Led by the massive and highly talented Darth Vader at center and the always intense and intimidating Emperor Palpatine in goal, the Galactic Empire looks to stomp the young Rebels once and for all.

The Rebels are led by venerable Obi-Wan Kenobi at right-wing, but the Rebels appear to be nothing more than a patchwork team. Because of insufficient funds, the Rebels’ team wasn’t even put together when this game was announced. So, much like Frank Wren, the Rebels’ GM had little to work with.

  1. Great stuff Paul! As a hockey and Star Wars fan that was a lot of fun to read.

    • I’m glad you liked that, Steve! Larry Granillo, who runs wezen-ball and and who was the imagineer of that amazing story, is my younger brother.

And I’ll never let him forget it! đŸ™‚

Unbelievable write up!! What imaginative minds some of us had when we were 18. I was imagining staying out of trouble during Army boot camp and tech school when I was 18. Saw a boot leg copy of a new movie called Star Wars when I was in Germany. Somebody played it in our rec room. Had the sides cut out so the wording was clipped but we didn’t care. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread back in the mid 70’s. That was my intro to an Evil Empire other than the later New York Yankees and a Vader other than Jimmie Johnson in NASCAR.

Leia Organa on the blades would have been the hottest Hockey babe before Manon Rheaume and Cammie Granato.
