For the thirteenth year in a row (minus one that I don’t count), I’ve taken this day off from work to revel in the splendor that is Opening Day.
It’s a holiday for me, Pagan as it is, but I relish it. A new season with new hopes and an opportunity for wholehearted enthusiasm and untempered optimism. I love Opening Day.
Opening Day 2013 marks a new beginning for us all. Today everyone remains unbeaten, all sins of last year washed away. All records have been reset to 0-0 and the dream of a pennant race six months hence is enjoyed by even those feeble franchises that haven’t mustered to give their fans hope in years – that is, except each spring, on Opening Day. When we all have hope.
