QUESTION: Is there a limit to how much should be spent on gifts?
ANSWER: No limit, but unless you have more money than you know what to do with, $20-25 is a good guideline. A number of people have already expressed concern about the cost. Money is a real concern for me, too. However, the inspiration for this gift exchange came when I was looking at some games on my shelf that I doubt I’ll ever play much, if at all, and it occurred to me that I should give a few of them away around Christmas time. It didn’t take long before I was thinking that many of us probably have a few of these games or seasons or other tabletop-sports paraphernalia that might be better enjoyed by someone else.
In this way, I hope that money is not a barrier to anyone who wants to participate. I’m sure many of us won’t have to spend anything except shipping costs, though somebody might know of the perfect gift for the giftee, and want to spend a little to get it. That’s up to you.
QUESTION: Does it have to be a gift from the tabletop-sports hobby?
ANSWER: I don’t want to unilaterally decide this for everyone, but I vote that, yes, it should be something that is related to this hobby. That’s the reason we’re all on this website right now. The guys who will be participating are some of the most informed tabletop-sports hobbyists in the world. You guys teach me something new about this hobby every day. I hope we can surprise and educate each other and bring a little excitement to each other’s lives this holiday season. I guarantee we can give each other gifts we’ll never get anywhere else.
QUESTION: Is this one of those Secret Santas where I’m supposed to give them small things a bunch of times before Christmas, or can I just send one thing?
ANSWER: If you want to send more than just one present, you’re more than welcome to, but you’re only pledging to give one gift when you sign up.
QUESTION: Can I sign up to be matched up to more than one person?
ANSWER: Not this time. Since I don’t have any experience running something like this and I don’t know how big this is going to get, I’d like to keep it as simple as possible for now. I’ll revisit this question at a later date.
QUESTION: What does OneForFive get out of this? You must have some motive or are making money off of this somehow.
ANSWER: Of course I hope that word about this exchange gets around and somebody out there sees OneForFive for the first time because of it. I also hope that someone hangs out here long enough to be convinced to purchase a Custom Scorebook for their next project. But other than that, I’m don’t receive anything from anybody and I’m not pushing anybody else’s products. All opinions are my own honest opinions. And in my opinion, you should be someone’s Secret Santa this year, and let someone else be yours.
QUESTION: How do I sign up?
