Yasiel Puig Rookie Card

We won’t see the first APBA or Strat-O-Matic (or Topps) Rookie Cards for the Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig for a few months yet, but there are a couple of games that have already released cards based on the 2013 season.

One of the best-kept secrets in the tabletop-sports world is a baseball game by Greg Sovan called “Playball!.” Playball is a full-play baseball sim that rivals the big dogs in terms of playability, accuracy, and the fun factor.

The Playball! Website

If you missed it, back on October 3rd, Greg released a Beta pdf set of all eight 2013 playoff teams for free to anyone who cared to preplay the playoffs. It was a tremendous and magnanimous offer.

You can download the Playball! instructions and the two World Series teams here: Playball! Game Instructions and Charts; 2013 St Louis Cardinals and 2013 Boston Red Sox

But to the point, here is (the beta version) of Yasiel Puig’s of the 2013 Playball! card:

  1. History Maker Baseball from Plaay came out with a midseason set of 2013 cards. The final 2013 cards are already out, too.

  2. It’s a great game, for sure. You need to be patient with the learning curve, but well worth the wait. Great site, Paul! Bravo.

  3. Just started playing Playball by Greg Sovan a few weeks back. I must say he has done a great job of creating a game with enough detail that it doesn’t ruin the playability. After a few games I had most of the rules down and was completing games in 20 minutes or less. Kudos Greg!

    • I agree, Robert! Playball! is a terrific game that scores high in playability and fun factor. Greg also seems to be a really nice guy who enjoys creating games as much as we enjoy playing them. A credit to the hobby, he is.

  4. i will add my kudos for Playball. This game is surprisingly complete for as easy as it is to play. It’s very fun, realistic, and does not require a lot of set-up (which I really appreciate). No need to add player ratings to your scoresheet as they are all right in front of you on the defense and pitcher’s card. Also, no need to scour through the cards looking for a reliever, they are all right in front of you. I am hooked on this game!
